History of the Limerick

After lengthy, gut wrenching research we have determined that no one really knows the exact origin of the limerick. This we do know: The limerick has an ‘aabba’ rhyme scheme (no, not the 70’s Swedish rock group, that’s another ‘AABBA’). It is named after an town in Ireland. It has traditionally been a bawdy, or ribald form of verse. It is usually funny, often ‘quirky’.
